Strawberries in the snow....

An update on the new red linen fishies....

When I got the red linen fishies last week I was pretty sure that they would leave within a few days. They were heavy and nice but the colour was so not “me”....

I decided to wash them and give them a try but already knew that I would either let them go or put them into a dye bath....

Fast forward to this week.

It was raining for days, some of the kids were sick and I got not enough sleep...

So I needed three things to brighten these days.... chocolate, cake and a wrap that cheers me up....
Fitting into a smaller jeans size would have been great as well, but chocolate and cake were on top of my list so the new jeans will have to wait one more week I guess....

Chocolate.... check.... delicious handmade hot chocolate with a tiny little bit cinnamon.... I love this! Can’t get enough.... seriously....

Next step – the cake.... not a real cake this time but incredible yummy cinnamon rolls – and two little helper to make them....

And the delicious result....

Step three – the bright and cheery wrap....

Ummmm.... I always have wonderful bright coloured wraps in my stash but nothing was really new to me so I gave the linen fishies a final try and I’m absolutely impressed by the wrapping qualities.
The wrap was still not what I would describe as super soft so I gave it some kind of special treatment. I washed it first then steam ironed the heck out of it while it was still wet to get it softer and avoid any creases. Finally I put it into the delicate dryer cycle to fluff it up.... and this did the trick!

It is still very heavy and dense and nothing what I would call an absolute beginner wrap but feels much softer now and it is simply fun to wrap with it. And surprise, surprise.... even the colour starts growing on me.... sometimes it needs some rainy days to try something different....

I made some comparison pics with Indio Rosenholz with 50% linen, Cashmere Siena fishies, the new burgundy Pfau, red cotton Birds and our beloved and super soft Earthy Rainbow Girasol,,,,

New year, new wrap....

I have been thinking about this wrap for the past couple of days now. In general I only like fishie wraps with blues or natural colours and a bright red is honestly not the colour I would reach for if I have other choices....
But curiosity killed the cat and I just had to give this new 50% linen fishies a try....

Soooooo.... here we go....

Fische Karmin.... first Didy release in 2011....
50% linen, 50% cotton
The bright red weft threads are linen, the natural ones are cotton.
The size 6 weights around gr and right out of the box the width is cm. I will add the post wash width later today.

The position of the fishies is the same as on the Elburg Alpaca ones, the Didymos signature is now a centimetre off the rail.

The colour of the wrap itself is hard to capture in pictures. Think bright red strawberries in spring with heavy cream.... For those who know you can find a similar red in the latest version of the regular red and white Indios. While the linen threads are bright red and the cotton threads natural, the overall effect from the distance is slightly pink. If you take a closer look of course there is no pink in this wrap at all.

The wrap has the characteristic linen nubs but that isn’t something that bothers me in general. The weave is dense and the wrap feels pretty stiff right out of the box but not as worse as I expected. For the wrap geeks it reminds me of the thick petrol ecru fishies that were released in spring 2009.
After washing and drying plus steam ironing it gets softer already but it will definitely take some effort to get it really moldable.... Maybe it will get some kind of silky soft one day but I doubt that it will ever get really snugly simply due to the weave.

For me it is too early to make a final decision when it comes to the wrapping qualities. I can totally see that this wrap has potential to rock as a toddler wrap but have to give it a proper workout first.

If you are looking for a thin, super easy to use wrap for a tiny little baby then run! Seriously no wrap I would start with a baby before it hits the 10kg....
If you have a two or three year old that still loves to be carried then you might fall in love with the support this wrap provides.

For me I’m still not sure what to think about this wrap simply because of the colour. It is beautiful and unique and I can see it as a great wrap for spring.... but bright red is not a colour you can usually find in my wardrobe.... not at all....

I love all kinds of pink, deep berry colours and dark reds with blue undertones and the Indio Burgund is simply perfect for me.... but a bright and light red?.... nope....

So I have to think a bit more if I love the wrapping qualities that much that I want to keep this wrap. Or if it will hit the dye bath very soon.... or if these fishies will leave this house and swim to a friend....

Our baby seems to like the wrap and our four year old loves it as well.... can’t wait to hear what the other family members say....

For now here are some first pictures. I will post action and comparison pics during this weekend....

Red, red Wine or hot Chocolate?

In the past few weeks I tried to focus on my family and my family again. Trying to spend as much time as possible with each other, enjoying the Christmas holidays together and making wonderful memories plus lots of knitting projects.... It was so needed after a pretty stressful year and we loved it!

I did some dye projects as well and had planned a pink wrap dye job for ages but couldn’t decide on a wrap for it so when I saw a new pinkish Didy release I was more than happy to give this wrap a try....

A few days ago the parcel arrived and the first thing that crossed my mind when I opened the first box was.... hot chocolate!
I still don’t know why I associate this wrap with chocolate at all but that’s it. Wonderful hand made hot chocolate with a tiny bit od cinnamon and some heavy cream..... yummy!....

Now back to the wrap itself....

Indio Burgund all cotton....
It is a deep burgundy coloured wrap with maroonish undertones and zyklame pink cross threads....
The size 6 weights around gr and this wrap is definitely more on the thinner side.

The colour of this wrap is divine and everything I hoped for. After all the years of wrapping it needs a lot to surprise me, but this wrap managed to make it into my permastash in one single second.
I just love the deep raspberry pink and for me it is a perfect year around wrap that looks great with jeans and black or white shirts but also with a black dress or white linen pants and a nice tunic.... and yes, I totally wear my boys in pink wraps because they are part of my wardrobe.... ;o)

Regarding the wrapping qualities..... This is not a thick wrap and I wouldn’t choose it in a medium length for single layer carries when I plan to wear a heavy toddler. But I think it is pretty comfy in multi layer carries and I even can imagine it as a shorty for quick rebozo carries with a walking toddler. It doesn’t need much space in your bag and you can wear it as a pretty scarf as well.
The Indio Burgund gets very soft after only one wash and with some use it feels wonderful silky.
Thinner wraps always require a tight and proper wrap job for a maximum of comfort but it is very easy to wrap with it so I don’t see any problems in this point.

Not sure if I would pick it for a long hiking trip but thankfully I have other super supportive wraps for this purpose.

When I saw the first swatches I thought that the Indio Burgund would be very close to the 2009 Indio Hibiscus.... I never thought that these two wraps would be that different!
The Indio Hibiscus from 2009 is significantly lighter coloured and literally screams summer, sun and popsicles while this Indio Burgund is my hot chocolate, feeling warm and cozy wrap.... both are perfect in their ways and still so different....

I managed to make some comparison pics of Hibiscus and Burgund and will try to make some decent action shots later today....
But for now, here are the first pics....

Off to make some pics....
